Overview

Bandizip is a file archiver developed by the Korean company Bandisoft. It creates archives in ten formats, including ZIP, 7Z, TAR and ISO, and extracts more than 40, from RAR and RAR5 to ZSTD, ZPAQ and the Korean EGG and ALZ formats. Its headline feature is multicore compression, which the developer says makes compression up to six times faster, and there are separate versions for Windows and macOS.

The free Standard edition may be used both at home and in companies or public institutions, which makes it practical for offices that receive Korean EGG archives. It is localized into many languages and offered for 32-bit, x64 and ARM64 Windows. The catch is that the free edition shows in-app ads, follows a fixed update policy, and leaves features such as image previews inside archives and archive repair to the paid Professional edition.

Key Features

Multicore compression

Bandizip spreads compression across several CPU cores and claims up to six times faster results. The free Standard edition uses up to 16 threads and Professional up to 64. Files larger than 4 GB are supported.

40+ extraction formats

It extracts EGG, ALZ, RAR, RAR5, 7Z, ZIP, ISO, CAB, ZSTD, LZ4, ZPAQ and more than 30 other formats. Archives can be created as ZIP, 7Z, ZIPX, EXE (self-extracting), TAR, TGZ, LZH, ISO, GZ or XZ, and TGZ or TBZ files unpack in a single step.

Split and encrypted archives

Large archives can be split into volumes, for example to fit e-mail attachment limits. Archives can be password-protected with AES-256 encryption.

Edit inside archives

Files can be added, deleted or renamed inside an archive without extracting it first. Individual files can also be dragged out of the archive window to extract just what you need.

Code page detection

Bandizip detects the character encoding, or code page, of archives made on systems in other languages so that file names are not garbled. The code page can also be changed manually.

Paid-only extras

The Professional edition removes ads and adds a password manager, archive repair, image previews inside archives and archive password recovery. Archive malware scanning is only partially available in the free edition.

Assessment

Features

Multicore compression, split and encrypted archives, in-archive editing and over 40 extraction formats make the free edition fully capable for everyday work. Many convenience features, including image previews, repair and password management, are reserved for paid editions.

Ease of Use

A localized interface and Explorer right-click integration make it easy to pick up. In the free edition, however, in-app ads appear and the update policy is fixed to the latest version with no option to change it.

Stability & Safety

The official edition comparison states that no edition installs bundled software or changes the browser start page, but the free edition displays ads inside the program, and the installer includes a Coupang-related executable (coupang.exe). Updates are frequent, with version 7.47 released on October 13, 2026.

Is Bandizip free for commercial use?

Yes. The free Standard edition may be used in companies and public institutions at no cost; a paid edition is needed only to remove ads or unlock extra features.

Buy a paid edition. Professional costs $30 per user and Enterprise $20 per PC, both as lifetime licenses.

Yes. Bandizip extracts RAR and RAR5 archives as well as the Korean EGG and ALZ formats, but it cannot create RAR archives.

Bandizip or 7-Zip: which is better?

Bandizip suits users who need EGG and ALZ support and faster multicore compression, while 7-Zip suits those who want no ads at all. Both are free for business use.

Does Bandizip work on Windows 11?

Yes. Bandisoft supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11, with installers for 32-bit, x64 and ARM64 systems.

Verdict

Bandizip is a fast, capable archiver for users who need EGG and ALZ support, even in the office. Its features and speed are strong, but in-app ads in the free edition, the fixed update policy and the Coupang-related executable in the installer hold it to our editor rating of 2 out of 5.
