V3 Lite is a free antivirus program from the South Korean security company AhnLab. It provides real-time scanning that checks files as they are opened or saved, quick and full scans with disinfection, and anti-ransomware tools aimed at ransomware—malware that encrypts files and demands payment. Newly downloaded files are checked against AhnLab's ASD cloud. The interface is available in Korean and English.
It is aimed at home users, particularly in Korea, who want an antivirus with Korean-language guidance from a local vendor. Only individuals may use it for free; companies, government offices, schools and PC cafés must buy a paid V3 product. AhnLab also states that V3 Lite is a "commercial advertising program" under Article 50-5 of Korea's Network Act, so users who want protection without ads may find the Microsoft Defender Antivirus already built into Windows sufficient.
Files are scanned for malware as they are run or saved. Quick and full scans can be started manually, detected threats can be disinfected or deleted, and suspicious programs are blocked from running.
Ransomware behavior is detected with decoy files (Ghost Decoy) and isolated scanning in a virtual space. Anti-ransomware, the ransomware protected folder and related settings are combined in one menu.
Users can designate folders that hold important files; only processes they have allowed can access them. This guards documents and photos against unwanted modification or deletion.
Newly downloaded files are checked with AhnLab's ASD cloud technology to determine whether they are clean or malicious. Machine learning and cloud data are used to respond to new malware variants.
Attempts to open phishing pages or sites that distribute malware are blocked. AhnLab's materials do not list specific supported browsers.
Program management, ActiveX management and toolbar management menus help remove unneeded components when boot or browsing becomes slow.
Real-time scanning, cloud lookups, anti-ransomware and web protection cover what is expected of a free antivirus, and AhnLab cites certifications such as VB100 and AV-TEST. Services like remote support and identity-theft protection are sold separately.
Real-time protection is on by default after installation, so little configuration is needed, and Korean and English interfaces are available. AhnLab advises removing any existing antivirus first, because running two products together can cause problems.
AhnLab's official download page states that V3 Lite falls under the legal definition of a commercial advertising program, which covers software that sends advertising or fixes the browser start page. The installer is about 120 MB, and the recommended specification of 4 GB RAM and 1 GB free disk space is not light. The engine versions shown on the official page are dated November 2026, so updates continue.

It is free for individual users. Companies, government offices, schools, PC cafés and other organizations must purchase a paid V3 product.
No. AhnLab offers V3 Lite free only to individuals and directs businesses to its paid V3 products.
Yes. AhnLab states on its download page that V3 Lite is a commercial advertising program as defined by Article 50-5 of Korea's Network Act.
There is no need. When another antivirus is installed, Microsoft Defender Antivirus turns off its real-time protection automatically, and AhnLab warns that V3 Lite may not work properly alongside other antivirus software.
Yes. It supports Windows 7 SP1 (with specific patches), 8.1, 10 and 11, including Windows 10 and 11 on ARM64; server editions are not supported.
V3 Lite is a workable free antivirus for home users who want Korean-language guidance, but its ad-supported classification and individual-only license are real drawbacks. Because Microsoft Defender, already built into Windows, does the same job without ads, there is little reason to install it separately, which leads to our editor rating of 1 out of 5.
